Costa Rica
At the last minute I decided to go to a yoga spa in San Jose. It is
named after the most popular expression in Costa Rica: Pura Vida-pure
life. Costa Rica is not costa rica.that is, it doesn't have a rich
coast. Christopher Columbus dubbed this small country Rich Coast after
the mistaken belief of riches because of the gifts its inhabitants gave him when he first landed.
Fortunately this beautiful country did not have natural resources that
would justify invasions and wars. Instead the populace was content with
its beautiful rain and cloud forests and picturesque beaches. The
people have supported a democracy since the days of Columbus and have
developed a stable middleclass. One of the reasons it has been able to
do so is that it spends no money on an army. It reminds me of the old
1960's song. What if there was a war and no one showed up? Of course,
it doesn't hurt that it is protected by the United States.
The spa and staff were excellent. I had a great time in spite of the
pain of twisting my inflexible body in strange ways. It was off-season
and very few guests were there. I was the token male. We took several
ventures from the grounds but most of the time I was content to stay
put. I recommend Costa Rica, Pura Vida and the staff that took care of
me.
